Caribou Thunder is thrilled to be involved in mentoring Indigenous students who are passionate about pursuing STEM degrees. We are pleased to introduce our mentee Traelene Fallis and all the exciting things she’s doing.

“My name is Traelene Fallis, I am from the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe Reservation in Fort Thompson South Dakota. I am a fourth-year animal science, pre-vet major at South Dakota State University. I am the President of our Campus AISES Chapter and one of the first Wokini Initiative Scholars at our university. I work part-time at our horse unit and the animal research & diagnostic lab as a necropsy technician. I am currently applying to veterinary school and hope to be pursuing my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in the next year. I plan to specialize in large and small animal medicine with some shelter medicine specialty. My goal is to come back to my reservation and open an animal clinic and sanctuary. I have always had a passion for helping and caring for animals and I am one step closer to pursuing a long-term dream of mine.”
